Augustus Knappcirca 1894 John Augustus Knapp was a Kentucky-born illustrator whose work graced the faces of early 20th-century tarot cards and the covers of mystic and occult volumes. A contemporary of Frank Duveneck and Henry Farney, he studied at the McMicken School of Design in Cincinnati. Knapp went on to hold various positions as a designer and lithographer at Russell Morgan Lithograph, Strobridge Lithograph, Cincinnati Process Engraving, and Standard Publishing where he illustrated books and magazines.
