62″ x 44″ Handmade Afghan in Colors Black And Gray Silver. Go Raiders!! I have about 20 afghans here at ebay. Most of them are very close to the age of 50 years; some over 50, some almost 50. I remember the hours and hours my mom, grandma, and sister put into crocheting their own afghans, ponchos, shaws, and scarfs back in the mid 1970’s. The hobby was very popular, even with elementary school girls who took their crocheting bags to school. I remember that there is a «front» and a «back» to each afghan created by the crocheter. Some stitches do not create a front/back difference, but some stitches do. Either way, the back side is where the yarn is cut and tied. Sometimes an inch or 2 of yarn is left on both sides of the knot, and woven back into the afghan. If you find a spot where the crocheter could have done a better job, it is easy to repair with a sewing needle and thread. My collection only holds those that are barely used and I found no damage to them unless otherwise noted, so all of these handmade pieces are sold «as is.» In an attempt to give you an idea of ‘scale,’ I have photographed (front and back without moving) the afghans draped over a chair that is a standard 38″ high and 18″ wide. Some stitches used are faster to make and use less yarn. Other stitches, such as the zigzag pattern are tighter weaves and more time consuming to make. They may be priced higher as a result. Two themes emerged with my collection here. One is the red white and blue bicentennial (1976) Evel Knievel look. The other look is the multicolor squares trimmed out on black, which is used on the old TV show Rosanne. I mention that here in case you want to look at those items in my store.
