This 8 1/2” fused glass plate is an early example of Sydenstricker artistry, produced in Brewster, MA, on Cape Cod. Research dates this item to the 1980s. Fairly thick (3/16”) and very solid, this is not a delicate plate: it weighs 1 lb 4 oz and can likely withstand an offshore breeze. Flat, not ruffled. The label is still affixed to the back, and the signature is etched into the glass at the bottom. Authentic 1980s pieces tend to have the label and sig as “Syd” or “Sydenstricker” for founder Bill Sydenstricker. Vibrant in color and happy in design, this item would be a fitting summer gift.
